The burden of AKI throughout the world

The burden of AKI throughout the world: In developed countries, AKI is common, seen in 20% of hospital admissions and 300-500/100,000 population-year This incidence appears higher than originally thought, and is possibly increasing. In contrast, AKI incidence in LMIC is unknown, and appears to be lower than in developed countries. Underreporting is likely the most common reason for this discrepancy.
